Halo-Halo @ Chowking

Hello, food tippers.  I'm quiet busy for these past few days, and didn't have time to pop in here! I missed the food , I missed visiting you too ^_^

By the way, the weather here is soo hot! The humidity is too high,  that makes me so tired too. No A/C because it's broken and Sara didn't bother to ask somebody to fix it. (malapit na daw siyang mamatay ika niya) Huhuhu! Anyway, with this hot , humid weather. I'm happy  that mom had a halo-halo at Chowking last week. Glad that she let my sister decide where to go. Other wise they'll end up eating halo-halo in the market. My mother hates to eat in the proper restaurant, and my sister hates to go to the market. LOL!

How To Avoid Junk Food Cravings

I took this shoot just to have an entry for MYM. ^-^ Well, we all know that eating junk food is not good for our diet. Eating to much with this unhealthy food can make you tired, loose energy, and can put on weight. Whew! Remember that? Here is an article contributed by ehow member Emike:

How to avoid junk food cravings?

1. The first thing to do to fight the cravings is to eliminate the temptation. Clear out the junk food and replace with healthy food. Stock up with fruits and vegetables.
2. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. It will give you plenty of vitamins and minerals. To satisfy your sweet tooth, eat fruits instead of candies and chocolates. For instance, try frozen grapes pineapples and etc.

3. Eat complex carbohydrates instead of simple carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates give you energy and filled with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Simple carbohydrates are not healthy because it contains refined sugar and it doesn't provide the essential nutrients we need.

4. Instead of drinking carbonated beverages, try drinking water or put lemon/lime to add flavor to it.

5. Be more active. Do exercise that you love. Increase your awareness about fitness. Exercise for at least 30 minutes. Exercise helps boots your metabolism and burn calories.

6. Instead of dining out, try packing lunch or cook at home. It can also help avoid spending money on fast food snack.

7. Learn to eat in moderation. Completely cutting junk food from your diet will not make it easy to kick the habit.

Note : You can achieve all this if you have strong will and determination. Discipline your self and you will love the difference.

Red Kitchen Design

I had an exhausting but lovely afternoon with Anne (Sarah daughter). We went to IKEA to look some dinning table design for Anne new house.  Oh, IKEA is a very huge store, lucky Sarah didn't fancy to come with us otherwise she will be exhausted and out of breath. So, while Anne was talking to a sales clerk there.  I sneaked  around and took picture of their kitchen showrooms.

Crispy Chicken With lentil Ragout

Have you try to make these recipe? Then, if not , try it now. Was my first attempt to make these and turned out perfect. As Sara expression " oist collect the teller" an Yisddish word means- "licked the plate", delicious and succulent as she said!

 Ingredients :
2 celery sticks, trimmed and finely sliced
8  boneless chicken fillets, skin left on
225g can green lentils
2 leeks, trimmed and finely diced
2 carrots, finely diced

Instructions:

1. Put half the leeks, carrots , and celery in a pan, cover with cold water, adding a chicken stock cube if desired for extra flavour, bring to boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the veg is tender, then strain.

2. Heat a frying pan over a medium heat. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil then place the chicken in the pan skin-side down. reduce heat to low and cook for 20-25 minutes until skin is crispy.

3. When the chicken is slightly brown, turn over and cook for another 5 minutes until tender. Remove from heat and leave to rest.

4. Heat 2 tbsp. olive oil in a pan and cook remaining leeks, carrots, and celery for about 10 minutes. Stir in the lentils and stock. Season and simmer for a few minutes until most of the stock has been absorbed and the veg is tender.

5. Carve each chicken fillet into 2 to 3 inches slices. Spoon the little mix on the plates and place chicken on top.

Recommendation : Instead of chicken, use thinly sliced, grilled low fat haloumi, which is slightly less salty than full fat.

Scenic Sunday - Nitza Promenade

The two picture above is the place where I live and work. I'm living and working here for past 5 years already. The above picture is the apartment side of the road and the front is the promenade going down to the beach. I certainly miss this place when I'm going home ..

Home Decorating and Designing

Recently, I'm contemplating what decoration and makeover I would like to set up in my new home. Surely, when I arrived in the Philippines, I can only see my newly built house but needs interior designing and decorating. Oh, No! Do I still got a budget for this? I can't afford to hire interior decorator and definitely, I will never hire. Hahaha! Assuming (Ano ako mayaman?).

Since it is only a little house and newly built. So, it is easier to do it myself. A simple makeover can add the beauty of my little home to be. I have listed the five major areas of my home that needs decorating and designing.

1. On Choosing Interior Color - Color is a fundamental part of home decorating ideas. I am sure you agree with me. Though there is a huge of selection but also it a major problem. Well, for my little home with a little kitchen bar I decide to have a light color by using cream as my major color for the wall.

2. Home Furniture - Choosing home furniture should match the color scheme you choose for your house. For a little house, I will use a furniture which suits to the size of my living room. Living room furniture with contrasting colors make for an interesting setting.

3. Kitchen Decorating - The kitchen is the heart of my home. This is the place where I have morning cup of coffee, preparing nurturing meals for my family, friends and make foods for parties and special occasions. So to make my kitchen friendly and airy atmosphere. I choose light and bright colors for walls. Or perhaps I can add some bit and pieces for decoration and a blinds and curtains for windows. To save spaces, I can hang large utensils or keep it in a little cupboard.

4. Bedroom Decorating - Many people think that there's much you can do to decorate a bedroom. A bed, the usual bit and pieces not much for it. For a small modern bedroom design I can add lamps that attach on the wall in both side of the bed to make it cozy and calm. And I will use a light color so that it will have a cheerful and fresh ambiance. Put some adds-on like hanging beautiful painting in the wall or add some decorative pillows.

5. Bathroom Decorating - Small bathroom does not mean dysfunctional. There are things you can do to ensure small bathroom functional. You can use every conceivable space, every nook and cranny. So, instead of mirror, I will use a narrow cabinet with mirror. Put lights near to the mirror. And use light colors, possibly white that I can go with any decor.

Enjoy decorating!
